I've officially decided. I HATE SOFT CELL SHADING xDDDD!
It's annoying having to smudge all the colours and shading and what not to somewhere that I like. xD On top of that, the exstreme soft method that the people who did the original illustrations of Utawarerumono is EXSTREMELY hard to mimic Dx} because it's so soft... I had a hard time doing the shading for the skin ;_; and especially the face... And then the lighting. xD My lighting will forever be off. But if I had tried make the picture blend with the background, I don't think Eruru would have stood out in the illustration as much. I did however try to incorperate the blue tones into her shading to give it the impression of 'night'. As for the background, it's bad as well xDDDD. I tried to think of a nice scene to stick Eruru in that was in Utawarerumono so people could relate I guess... so I thought up the lake xD which was simple enough for me. For the colours, I thought I'd make them really saturated, to help make Eruru stick out against it (the colours for her are mainly very soft and pastel-ish, so I thought the brightness of the background would balance it). I had this picture drawn in actually 2006, shortly after I finished watching Utawarerumono xD. I love Eruru (she will always be Eruru to me, not Eluluu), I think she's adorable! Can you guess what part I dig the most about her? HER EARS! xDDD I only got around to colouring it lately because I managed to get a clear picture of the drawing with my camera (I drew this picture in my largest sketchbook that doesn't fit on my scanner Dx I love the room on the sheets in that sketchbook though...) I had to make the picture even larger then what I had taken the picture of it to get a good resolution, but I made it far bigger then my usual picture size, so doing the digital line art took much longer then I usually do. Anyway, my computer has been acting funny lately, so I was lucky to have been able to finish this picture. D8 By the looks of it, my computer requires a wipe to fix the problem completely.
